Getting Started With Your New Mac
- So you’ve just unpacked your new mac. The first thing you’ll need to do is setup the basic configuration on your mac.
- The first thing you will be asked to do is select where you are. If you’re here at NC State, chances are you’re in theUnited States, so click on that and then click Continue
- Next you will be asked to choose your keyboard layout. By default, the US layout is the only one displayed. Unless you use another layout or have been told otherwise, click Continue
- Next you will be asked to enter an Apple ID. This is used to access some of Apple’s online features. If you have an ID, enter it. If you don’t, you can create one, or choose not to create one. These instructions assume you don’t create one. Then click Continue.
- Next you will be asked to enter some registration information. This is used to personalize some settings in your computer. The information will also be sent to Apple at the end of this setup unless you choose to not connect to the internet at the end. For information on Apple’s privacy policy, click the button that says Privacy. Once you have entered your information, click Continue
- Next you will be asked a question about where you will use your computer and what you do. Select the appropriate answers (these will also be sent to Apple). You will also be asked if you would like to receive information and special offers from Apple. Select either Yes or No, and click Continue
- Click Continue again.
- You will then be asked to create a new account. The name field should be filled in with the name you entered in the registration info. #Change the Short Name to your EOS/Unity ID and set the password to your EOS/Unity Password. Then click Continue
- Next you will be asked if you want to create an internet account with EarthLink internet account. Choose I’ll use my existing Internet Service and then click Continue
- Next you will be asked how you will connect to the internet. Make sure you are plugged into the network and Select Local Network (ethernet) and then click Continue
- Your computer will then receive a DHCP configuration from the network. If it doesn’t, contact your system administrator. If you need to configure a specific network setup, click No, change the configuration. Otherwise, click Yes and then clickContinue
- Next you will be asked if you want to create a .Mac Account. If you have an account, enter it, otherwise, click I’ll set up a .Mac Membership later and click Continue
- At the next screen click Continue to configure your computer and send your information to Apple. If you do not wish to send your information to Apple, remove the network connection now. Then click Continue
- If you chose to remove your network connection, click Register Later when the the dialogue appears telling you that your registration could not be sent.
- Next you will be asked to configure the e-mail settings for your computer. Enter your email address in the first box. Enteryourusername.mail.ncsu.edu for the Incoming Mail Server. Select IMAP for the account type. Then enter your user name and password. Next enter smtp.ncsu.edu for the Outgoing Mail Server. Then click Continue.
- Next you will be asked to select your Time Zone, click on the east coast on the map and then choose the closest city. Click Continue
- At the next screen, click Go.
- Click on System Preferences from the dock at the bottom of the screen.
- Click on Accounts
- Click on Login Options
- Uncheck Automaticaly Log In
- You’re computer is setup and ready to go. Enjoy.
